KPKP Commemorates World Rabies Day

Jakarta Secretary, Saefullah opens the commemoration of World Rabies Day event hold by Jakarta Maritime Agriculture and Food Tenacity (KPKP) Department at City Hall's yard, Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan, Gambir, Central Jakarta.

"Hopefully, through routine vaccination and rabies prevention measures that have been done can maintain Jakarta to be free from rabies," he expressed, at City Hall, Tuesday (10/15).

In his speech, his side also reminds citizens who have pets, such as cat, dog, monkey, and civet should take their pets to vet or Jakarta KPKP Department to get routine vaccination.

Pet Owners Be Grateful for Free Rabies Vaccination

"Thank you for all sides who have helped and cooperated with Jakarta Government in order to handle rabies in Jakarta," he added.

Jakarta KPKP Department Head, Darjamuni stated, World Rabies Day is commemorated through cooperation with various sides, including Indonesian Veterinarian Association (PDHI) which always assists his side in conducting vaccination and neutering.

"Moreover, KPKP Department and PDHI also hold socialization and education to students, animal lovers, and public," he stated.

In order to maintain Jakarta as rabies-free city since 2004, his side vaccinates and neuters 35,000 animals each year. On October 1-9, 2019, his side has vaccinated 2,283 animals and neutered 1,503 cats.

"In the future, we will improve our monitoring to animals that entering Jakarta which haven't been vaccinated against rabies," he asserted.
